Learn to Dance  

CLASSES


TINY TOTS

Classes are for 2 to 3 year olds:
˜   Tiny Tots Class – Students cover a little of each style of dance in the one 45 minute lesson.
˜   Tiny Ballerina – This class teaches the basic technique of ballet and allows students to express themselves.
˜   Tiny Tapper – This lesson develops the basics of tap, as well as exercises that teach students to listen to the rhythm of the music. 
˜   Tiny Groover – Basic jazz technique, expression through movement and how to have fun are taught in this class. 


LITTLE BOPPERS

Classes are for 4 to 5 year olds:
˜   Little Boppers Class – In this class students cover a little of each style of dance in the one 45 minute lesson.
˜   Little Ballerina – In this class students taught movement using basic technique. Fun, imagination and self expression to dance like fairies or a princess ensures students stay motivated and interested.
˜   Little Tapper – This is a great class where they learn the basics of tap and work on rhythm, incorporating some fun listening games.
˜   Little Groover – Basic jazz technique, how to express themselves through movement and how to have fun are taught in this class. When students are capable they learn basic acrobatic techniques (cartwheels / forward rolls). 


PRE-PRIMARY

Classses are for 5 to 6 year olds:
˜   Pre-Primary Ballet – First level ballet where students are able to take an assessment with the Royal Academy of Dance. 
˜   Pre-Primary Tap – A great class where the tap technique and rhythm starts to develop.
˜   Pre-Primary Jazz Jazz technique, acrobatics and stretches are taught as flexibility is an absolute  asset in this style of dance. 
At this level the students dancing moves into a slightly more structured environment as a way of preparing them for the structure of future levels.Exams are not compulsory.  


PRIMARY

Classes are for 6 to 7 year olds:
˜   Primary Ballet – A progression for those looking to undertake an exam or assessment with the Royal Academy of Dance, as well as just participate in the class for fun.  These exams and assessments are not compulsory. Additional classes are required.
˜   Primary Tap – Students commence learning more detailed combinations of steps. 
˜   Primary Jazz –  Basic jazz technique, as well as some acrobatics and stretches, as flexibility is an absolute asset in this style of dance.  We ensure that students are always challenged and learning new skills in these lessons.


GRADE 1 & GRADE 2

Grade 1: 7-8 year olds
Grade 2: 8-9 year olds
˜   Grade 1/2 Ballet - Students learn classical technique; free movement as well as character. Students learn two dances. Those wishing to participate in exams must attend additional classes.
˜   Level 1/2 Tap - This is the first year that an examination is offered in the Glenn Wood Tap Syllabus.  Must attend one lesson a week to undertake exams.
˜   Level 1/2 Jazz – An extension of basic jazz technique as well as making sure that students are exposed to the ever evolving current techniques of jazz. Further extension of acrobatics.
˜   Level 1/2 Hip Hop –Students learn basic technique and short combinations in this style of dance always keeping up with the latest styles and techniques.


PRE-TEEN & TEEN

Pre-Teen: 10-12 year olds
Teen: 13+ year olds
˜   Pre-Teen and Teen Jazz – Further extension of basic jazz technique as well as making sure that students are exposed to the ever evolving current techniques of jazz. Further extension of acrobatics.
˜   Pre-Teen and Teen Hip Hop - Students learn basic technique and short combinations in this style of dance always keeping up with the latest styles and techniques.
˜   Pre-Teen and Teen Contemporary – This class tends to be split over a 3 week period, each week they cover a different area of this style of dance these 3 areas consist of technique, lifts and acrobatics, as well as stretch and conditioning.

Jazz/Tap/Hip Hop

˜  Camel tap shoes  - Tap  ˜    Black Jazz sneakers – Hip Hop  ˜    Short socks

Ballet

˜  Leotard and skirt  ˜  Pink Ballet Socks  ˜  Pink Ballet Shoes  ˜  Hair in a neat bun 
˜  All primary ballet students require a box with a doll in it for use in the dance that they learn in this grade 
˜  All ballet students in grades 1 and 2 require a black character skirt and character shoes
